Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Picks
The 2021 Acura TLX made the IIHS list for the Top Safety picks and received the highest possible safety rating in every IIHS test. These safety tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness, how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, then crash avoidance and mitigation, which looks at the technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity. The new Acura TLX’s Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection, which is part of AcuraWatch™, contributed to the TLX’s high safety ratings. AcuraWatch is our suite of driver and safety technologies that comes standard with our Acura models to help you better navigate the road, all while keeping your passengers and those around you safe.
National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) 5-Star Safety Ratings
The NHTSA tests frontal crash, side crash, and rollover crash capability. Then they will award a rating of between 1 and 5 stars for each category and provide an overall safety rating. The 2021 Acura RDX AWD, 2021 Acura RDX FWD, and 2021 Acura ILX all received an overall and side crash 5-star safety rating. All models also received a 4-star safety rating for frontal crash and rollover crash capability.
U.S. News and World’s Report Best Cars for 2021
U.S. News and World Report look at third-party reviews of all models and assign a score based on three components: performance, interior, critics’ rating, safety, reliability, fuel economy, cargo & towing/hauling, and awards.
