What We Know: Our 2016 Acura NSX Review
There are not many vehicles more deserving of a review than the upcoming 2016 Acura NSX, especially considering that some of us at Chicagoland Acura Dealers have been waiting for this new model for nearly a decade now. Acura has recently debuted the official production model of the vehicle, and while we don’t yet know when we’ll
be able to offer it to our Chicago area drivers, we do have some thoughts on what has been revealed about the vehicle so far.
The 25th Anniversary of the NSX
While we said that some of us have been waiting for nearly a decade for the new NSX, we would like to point out that we’re receiving news on the new model in this the 25th year since the original NSX debuted. It seems just like yesterday to some car lovers, but the NSX has come a long way in a quarter of a century.
One of the biggest changes from the concept car is in the engine. Rather than a naturally aspirated V6, Acura embraces a more powerful twin-turbocharged V6 that is capable of producing as much as 250 hp more than the concept had projected. Acura mated this engine to three electric motors—Acura’s Sport Hybrid configuration—as well as a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Why three electric motors? Because two of them are built for sending an instantaneous torque response to the front wheels of the NSX while the third one helps boost braking, acceleration, and transmission performance.
We’re eager to hear what all of the interior options are, but right now we’re a bit distracted by the aggressive low stance of the NSX that makes it clear that Acura’s new car is taking aim at the world’s top supercars.
