What Are Acura’s Jewel Eye LED Headlights

April 18th, 2014 by

You may have heard something about Acura’s Jewel Eye LED headlights found on new models like the 2014 Acura MDX, but just what is it that makes them so appealing and why is it we’re happy to see them on so many vehicles here at Chicagoland Acura Dealers?

See Clearly in an Acura

In addition to giving Acura vehicles an elegant look, the five LEDs on either side of the grille offer a brighter, whiter beam that uses less energy and lasts longer than halogen or HID lights.

The three outer LEDs on each side feature your low beams, with each lens precision aimed to focus LED beams both wider and longer than typical headlights making it easy to see the road more clearly while keeping from blinding oncoming cars like HID lights tend to.

High beams kick on the two inner LEDs, which can make it easier to identify objects in the distance as much as 200 milliseconds sooner than conventional lights. If you’re driving 60 mph, that’s a distance of over 17 feet.

Each of the ten LEDs act as daytime running lights too, helping to give vehicles like the MDX a distinct appearance, and even when they’re turned off the reflective surface generated a jewel-like look that adds a sense of class.

While many other automakers require drivers to upgrade for intense, enhancing headlights like the Jewel Eyes that are found on Acura models, they come standard without any need to upgrade.
