The New 2014 MDX Offers Surprising Upgrades
At first glance, the 2014 Acura MDX may not look very different from its 2013 predecessor. On the outside, only small differences in the bumper, lights and body panels are visible. However, there are a surprising number of changes on the 2014 edition of this vehicle that are definitely worth checking out. Here are just a few of the reasons to take another look at the new MDX.
The latest MDX is even more spacious than before. It is two inches longer than the 2013 model and rides on a wheelbase that is almost three inches longer. Even though the new MDX is larger, it is actually significantly lighter. Due to lightweight materials such as high-strength steel, magnesium and aluminum, the 2014 MDX loses 275 pounds.
As far as the vehicle’s performance, there are several changes here, too. For 2014, the MDX will be offered with front-wheel drive as well as Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. It will feature a new 3.5L, 290-hp “Earth Dreams Technology” V-6 that gives up a little bit of power, but the vehicle’s lighter weight should compensate for that.
Improvements on a Modern Classic
The latest model also receives a boost in fuel economy; the 2014 MDX with 290-hp i-VTEC V6 engine and SH-AWD is rated by the EPA at 28 mpg on the highway.*
The 2014 MDX also allows drivers to customize their driving experience by offering three performance modes: Sport, Normal and Comfort. The “Integrated Dynamic System” is able to adjust steering effort, all-wheel drive performance, exhaust note presence and throttle response to meet driver preferences.
There are plenty of tech features on the 2014 MDX that drivers are sure to love as well including:
- AcuraLink cloud-based connectivity
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Adaptive Cruise
