IIHS Names the 2015 TLX One of the Safest Cars on the Road
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is up there with the NHTSA as two of the top organizations that rank vehicle safety, and we are proud to say that the 2015 Acura TLX has come home with the IIHS’s top award. Select 2015 Acura TLX models with AcuraWatch technology have earned the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award, distinguishing them as some of the safest cars on the road today. What does it take to earn Top Safety Pick+? Let’s take a look.
Earning Top Safety Pick+
First, every vehicle that earns Top Safety Pick+ must initially pass the standards for Top Safety Pick, and in order to do that, it requires ratings of “good,” the highest the IIHS offers, in the following tests:
- Moderate Overlap Front Collision
- Side Collision
- Roof Strength
- Head Restraints
The vehicle must also earn at least an “acceptable” in the new Small Overlap Front Collision test. In addition to all of this, a vehicle has to receive a rating of basic, advanced, or superior in the area of frontal crash prevention to take home Top Safety Pick+. And TLX models with the new AcuraWatch suite of safety technology have been able to do just that.
According to the IIHS, “Models that earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK are the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories,” and we couldn’t agree more. Not only does the TLX present drivers with an easily affordable luxury car option, it gives them one of the safest family sedan choices on the road today.
There’s more to the TLX than its safety, though; it offers drivers two different engine options and a wide range of great standard features that put it into competition with some of the best cars in the world.
