Exploring the 2015 Acura RDX Powertrain

July 22nd, 2014 by

One of the best parts about the 2015 Acura RDX is that it carries over so much of what we loved from the 2014 model, including the powertrain. What is it about the 3.5L V6 under the hood of the RDX that we love? It manages to give you the power you need when you need it and save you fuel when you don’t need all six cylinders kicking.

A V6 That Sometimes Ins’t a V6

The best way to give drivers the best of both worlds—the fuel economy of a four-cylinder and the power of a V6—is so obvious that we’re surprised folks haven’t been doing it sooner. Acura designed an engine that knows when you need all of the power of the V6, all 273 hp, and when you don’t.

And if you don’t need the power, the RDX’s Variable Cylinder Management technology kicks in and uses only some of the engine’s cylinders, dropping down to effectively an inline 3-cylinder engine to conserve gas. It can also run as a V4 if needed. But rest assured that when you put that pedal to the floor and need to take full advantage of the V6, the RDX responds in an instant!

That’s just the start of it, too. The RDX is a seamless fusion of the versatility of a full-size crossover with the fuel economy of a compact crossover, making it an excellent choice for a new family vehicle. When you factor in the features that come standard on this wonderful Acura, it’s easy to see how it’s been such a successful vehicle over the last couple of years.
