Comparing Horsepower: 2015 Audi Q7 vs 2015 Acura MDX

September 28th, 2014 by

There are so many different things that come into play when you’re shopping for a new luxury crossover, and if you’re eying the 2015 Audi Q7 for its horsepower, we have news for you: the 2015 Acura MDX offers more power. There’s so much more to the MDX than its power, and we’ll get to that, but we need to look at the engines under the hoods of each of these crossovers first.

Acura Offers More Power

One of your first priorities in a crossover should be its engine, even if it’s not necessarily the first thing you think of. Under the hood of the Audi is a 3.0L V6 engine capable of 280 hp, while the MDX comes with a 3.5L V6 with 290 hp. Now, you might think that the MDX would be less efficient due to the higher power, but that’s not the case.

The 2015 Acura MDX with front-wheel drive earns an EPA-estimated 28 highway mpg* compared to the 22 highway mpg of the Audi Q7. Higher fuel economy and higher power are a sign of superior engineering. You can even tow up to 3,500 pounds on the MDX.

The Q7 Comes Up Short on Features

We could understand drivers choosing the Q7 if it were just the engines that were different, but Acura gives drivers quite a bit more on the features front as well. Here are just a few of the amenities you’ll find on the MDX:

  • Driver-side memory settings
  • Power moonroof
  • Rearview camera
  • Third row split bench seat
  • LED headlights
  • Push-button start
  • Paddle shifters

Each of those features is either unavailable on the Audi Q7 or requires an upgrade.
