2017 Acura RLX Sport HybridWhile we believe that every Acura model is unique, we have had a tough time finding one that can even hope to compete with the 2017 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid—an AWD hybrid sedan. Chicago drivers might find a few all-wheel drive performance sedans from other automakers, and there are certainly luxury hybrids out there, but we have yet to find a sedan that bridges the gap. Aside from the RLX, of course.

All-Wheel Drive and a Hybrid

If you are surprised at the idea of a car that is both a hybrid and equipped with all-wheel drive, you’re not alone. The 2017 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid is a different kind of hybrid, though. In addition to its 310-hp 3.5L V6 engine, it features a trio of electric motors that brings the combined output to 377 hp. For some, that added boost in power might be enough of a reason to go with the RLX Sport Hybrid over the standard RLX, but there’s so much more.

  • Improved Fuel Economy: The 2017 Acura RLX is efficient at an EPA-estimated 30 highway mpg and 20 city mpg,* but the 2017 RLX Sport Hybrid earns an EPA-estimated 30 highway and 29 city mpg.*
  • Sport Hybrid Handling: A hybrid engine is able to take the energy of the electric motors and convert it into immediate torque response for improved handling and performance.
  • Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD): Acura’s SH-AWD system does more than deliver increased traction and improve performance on slick pavement. This torque-vectoring system sends power to the outside rear wheels to more quickly launch it through a curve, sensing where the RLX needs traction the most and directing engine power there.

The 2017 Acura RLX already represented the top of the lineup of Acura luxury sedans, and the Sport Hybrid model takes things a step further. In addition to the enhanced performance and fuel economy numbers, the Sport Hybrid adds on exclusive 19-inch noise-reducing wheels, an electronic gear selector, a head-up display, LED fog lights, and a reactive force accelerator.

Test Drive an Acura
