Acura SUV Reviews

  • 2017 Acura MDX

When shopping for a new car or crossover, it’s important to do your research, so we have brought together SUV reviews for the vehicles at Chicagoland Acura Dealers to make your job easier.

Acura has two different crossovers, the RDX and the MDX, and we have our own review and overview of each of the vehicles as well as key quotes from top auto critics.

2017 Acura RDX

The newly released 2017 Acura RDX is already making waves in Chicago and the suburbs, and it’s pretty easy to see why just by glancing at its highlights.

Learn More About the Acura RDX

2017 Acura RDX The RDX has a 3.5L V6 engine under the hood capable of 279 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque, with front-wheel drive models earning an EPA-estimated 28 highway mpg.* When equipped with the available Real Time All-Wheel Drive, the RDX earns an EPA-estimated 27 highway mpg.*

The cabin is spacious, seating up to five passengers in 103.5 cubic feet of passenger space, and even the base RDX is equipped with advanced comfort and connectivity features such as leatherette-trimmed sport seating, heated front seats, keyless access with smart entry, Bluetooth for phone and audio, and a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Package upgrades like AcuraWatch Plus, the Technology Package, and the Advance Package make it easy to upgrade to fit the needs of nearly any driver. Available amenities include turn-by-turn navigation, Acura’s On Demand Multi-use Display (ODMD), Next Generation AcuraLink telematics, and advanced driver assistance and accident prevention features.

The RDX is sporty, too, handling like a dream whether you’re zipping through city streets or cruising down the highway, but you should experience that for yourself. And you don’t have to take our word for it on the RDX, either; the critics are big fans, too:

2017 Acura RDX

Kelley Blue Book: “The new RDX makes a strong case for itself against rivals like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK Class, and Audi Q5, especially when you consider Acura’s impressive reliability.”

2017 Acura RDXAutoWeek: “The RDX is downright quick thanks to its 279-hp V6, with good throttle response as soon as you touch the pedal. Like all VTEC engines, it pulls harder in the higher rev ranges, mostly above 4,000 rpm. Shifts from the automatic are plenty smooth, and the paddles are basically jewelry, telling the car’s brain that ‘it’s OK to shift now, if you’d like.’”

2017 Acura RDX

Edmunds: “The RDX starts with a simple, handsome shape free of gimmicks and excess. That same idea translates to its cabin, which despite its wealth of standard equipment, presents straightforward, easy-to-understand controls, high-quality construction and comfortable seating front and rear.”

2017 Acura MDX

Drivers intrigued by the RDX but needing more space, the 2017 Acura MDX has you covered. Unlike many luxury crossovers, the MDX has standard seven-passenger seating and requires no upgrades for the third row. Most of its “competitors” are five-passenger vehicles that have an optional third seat that is inserted into the cargo hold, leaving little room for passengers or cargo, and that’s just one of its advantages.

Learn More About the Acura MDX

2016 Acura MDX Standard features on the MDX mark this as a luxury crossover from the start. Each model includes leather upholstery and heated front seating, no need for upgrades, and when it comes to technology, this Acura includes Bluetooth for phone and audio, a multi-angle rearview camera, a touchscreen infotainment system, tri-zone automatic climate control, an automatic tailgate, and much more.

2016 Acura MDX

Like the RDX, the MDX has a series of package upgrades, including AcuraWatch Plus as well as Technology, Entertainment, and Advance packages. The AcuraWatch Plus package includes a series of advanced safety features, like collision mitigation braking and lane keeping assist. The MDX is available with the Acura-exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system for improved control in both wet and dry conditions.

2017 Acura MDX

Each MDX is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, and the 9-speed automatic transmission keeps the MDX incredibly efficient, earning an EPA-estimated 27 mpg on the highway.* Adding on SH-AWD barely impacts the fuel economy, with MDX SH-AWD models earning an EPA-estimated 26 highway mpg.*

Power, comfort, technology, and safety; what more could you want from a new luxury crossover? We are clearly fans of the MDX at Chicagoland Acura Dealers, and we’re proud to say that it’s the family vehicle of choice for quite a few Chicagoans. But you should hear what a few unbiased critics have to say about it, too:

2017 Acura MDX

USA Today: “Stepping back and regarding the MDX as an entire package, we’d say it’s easy and inviting to drive, classy enough to satisfy those addicted to premium machines, high-tech enough to indulge that tendency in many of today’s driver.”

2017 Acura MDX

Edmunds: “On the road, the Acura MDX remains one of the more satisfying three-row crossovers to drive, with a quiet interior at highway speeds and surprising athleticism when driving around turns.”

2017 Acura MDX

Kelley Blue Book: “The Acura MDX dominates the luxury crossover SUV market for one simple reason: it does everything well. Whether you want a luxurious family hauler, an agile and fun driving machine, or just seek the quiet and comfort of a luxury brand, the Acura MDX has it.”
