Acura Sets an Industry First for the 2016 NSX Supercar

January 28th, 2015 by

Setting a huge first for the auto industry, Acura’s 2016 NSX Supercar is the first vehicle of its kind that has a woman as the lead exterior designer. Michelle Christensen comes from a family of drag racers and spent her youth dreaming of working on a pit crew while designing friends’ dresses. By the time she realized that there was a person whose job it was to actually design cars, she knew her dream job, and now she can add the exterior design of the stunning new 2016 NSX to her resume.

The NSX is More Than Just Good Looks

If you think that the NSX is a beautiful car, you’re not alone—we’re pretty sure everyone at our Chicagoland Acura Dealers agrees with you—but the exterior design has to be as functional as it is beautiful. After all, if the NSX weren’t sculpted just so, it couldn’t cut through the air effectively enough to get the most out of its Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive.

The NSX production model officially greeted the world at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, because where else do you reveal such a powerful car? It’s practically reinventing the supercar style inside and out, too.

It’s tough to put into words just what the vehicle looks like; the black mesh grille is bookended by a pair of Jewel Eye LED headlights and one of the slickest, most aggressive front ends we’ve ever seen. The distinct side mirrors give the supercar a futuristic look, while the rear wheel wells are wider than the front to funnel air directly to the rear brakes to help improve brake cooling.

The interior is designed to fuse driver and car into one with body-color accents, leather sport seating, a touchscreen interface in the dash, a race-inspired set of gauges, an innovative new shifter for the 9-speed dual-clutch transmission with rev-matching on the downshift, and so much more.

Christensen has decades of auto design in her future, and we can’t wait to see what else she does for the Acura lineup.
