Acura Race Cars Are Everywhere at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
This year, a couple of Acura vehicles will be participating in various races within the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. To start, the 2018 Acura TLX A-SPEC will be making its racing debut during this event. This turbocharged model of the TLX includes a 3.5L V6 turbo engine with the power to deliver up to 500 hp. It also comes prepared with a limited slip differential—making it even more suited for the long hill climb. Unlike the commercial version of the TLX A-SPEC, this model is largely inspired by engineering from the RLX GT program and has had all of its interior luxuries stripped to reduce weight and increase performance. Longtime driver and winner of the motorcycle Pikes Peak 250 class in 2014 and Time Attack 2 Production class last year, Nick Robinson will be behind the wheel of a 2018 TLX this year preparing for victory.
Another vehicle we’ll see on the track is the returning Acura TLX GT, which has been slightly tuned in order to accommodate the elevation changes of the Pikes Peak track. Changes include tuning suspension for a hill-specific adventure, changing transmission gearing to increase acceleration, and other tweaks. This vehicle will compete in the main attraction and be driven by Peter Cunningham.
Last, but not least, the GT3-inspired Acura NSX is set to participate in Time Attack 1 with James Robinson behind the controls. The NSX has been optimized for the race this year with better tires, a new Sport Hybrid performance system, and a bigger wing and front splitter.
