Among the safety and driver-assist features found in each RDX model, the following are some of the technologies that come standard in each trim level:
Multi-View Rear Camera: A multi-view rear camera is found onboard each Acura RDX model. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, this camera instantly delivers live images of what is behind the RDX. Three separate views—normal, wide-angle, and top-down—let the driver select the best view for the current situation. (Dynamic guidelines are offered in the higher trim levels to further help drivers judge the distance between the RDX and obstacles in its path.)
VSA with Traction Control and Motion Adaptive Steering: The Vehicle Stability Assist system, which comes standard across the full RDX lineup, is designed to reduce dangerous oversteer and understeer. A variety of sensors are employed to constantly monitor factors like vehicle speed, individual wheel speed, throttle position, and more. When possible understeer and oversteer are detected, the system reduces engine torque and uses the vehicle’s ABS to send braking power to the wheels that need it. Traction control and motion adaptive steering further help stabilize the RDX in slippery conditions.
Smart Seat Belts: Standard safety belts for the driver and passengers alike feature an automatic tensioning system. This advanced system is designed to help protect vehicle occupants when accidents occur. If the RDX is involved in a collision, this system tightens both the shoulder and lap belts just milliseconds after the crash happens, positioning people firmly in their seats. If the collision is high-speed and severe and deceleration force exceeds a predetermined level, the automatic tensioning system will release a small amount of seatbelt webbing to mitigate the seatbelt retention force.
Intelligent Airbags: The Acura RDX’s advanced airbag system includes standard intelligent features. The SmartVent front side airbags are made to not only quickly deploy and inflate, optimizing the protection potential for vehicle occupants, but also to vent before fully inflating if a passenger is detected in the path of airbag deployment, thus reducing the risk of an airbag-related injury. Additionally, all of the RDX’s outboard seats have accompanying side curtain airbags with rollover sensors. Should a rollover accident occur, a roll-rate sensor and various G sensors will go into action to gauge the rate of roll and accordingly deploy the side curtain airbags.
Other cutting-edge driver-assist features are offered for the higher Acura RDX trim levels. Included among them are:
