2017 Acura NSX Integrated Dynamics System

  • 2017 Acura NSX

The NSX is the combination of decades of high-performance engines and automotive technology, and nowhere is that seen more clearly than in the 2017 Acura NSX Integrated Dynamics System. Chicagoland drivers have been asking us what sets the NSX apart from its other supercar competition, and while there’s not just one answer, the Integrated Dynamics System is the biggest difference. Let’s take a look at what it brings to the twin turbo V6 engine of the NSX.

Dynamic Driving Modes

With four selectable driving modes, the 2017 Acura NSX Integrated Dynamics System is able to combine the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD drivetrain and the vehicle’s dynamic chassis to create a new driving experience that offers a wider bandwidth than traditional sports cars. Here’s a look at each of those driving modes.

Acura NSX Quiet Mode

Quiet: This mode prioritizes electric-only driving and leaves the NSX gliding along the road in near silence until your driving needs demand more from the engine. This mode limits maximum engine speed to 4,000 rpm and the intake sound control valves and active exhaust are closed for a softer engine note. The tachometer displays a cool, relaxing, quiet blue color.

Acura NSX Sport Mode

Sport: Sport Mode eliminates the 4,000 rpm cap on the engine and features a quicker response due to its more aggressive throttle settings. This driving mode brings higher shift points and activates the intake sound control system and the active exhaust valve for a heartier driving experience. Though energetic, Sport Mode still gives the engine a rest whenever idling, keeping those joyrides efficient. The driver interface and tachometer in Sport Mode shifts from blue to a gray hue with highlights in red.

Acura NSX Sport + Mode

Sport+: This mode brings faster upshifts and downshifts, prioritizing Sport Hybrid response and carrying an even more aggressive throttle map than the Sport Mode. Sport+ delivers more explosive acceleration by embracing the full electric motor torque while retaining agility thanks to the direct yaw control setting. The driver interface in Sport+ Mode features a yellow trail along the tachometer needle while the display glows red.

Acura NSX Track Mode

Track: For the most aggressive settings, shift into Track Mode. Optimized for circuit drives, Track brings consistent, faster lap times and features Launch Mode Control (detailed below) for maximum possible starting acceleration. The brake system delivers pedal feedback for improved driver response, and all driving systems become optimized for speed and control. The cabin will reverberate with the engine sound, putting you more in tune with the NSX than ever before. The driver display is full red.

The performance and shifting characteristics of the 9-speed dual-clutch transmission are adjusted with each driving mode as well, with Track Mode delivering upshifting that’s 40 milliseconds faster than Sport+, Sport+ accommodating gear changes at higher engine speeds, Sport allowing more free revving of the engine, and Quiet sliding into low-engine speed shifting mode.

Integrated Dynamics Adjustments

Integrated Dynamics optimizes all aspects of the vehicle, and these other NSX features are adjustable for maximum performance.

Vehicle Stability Assist: The 2017 Acura NSX Integrated Dynamics System is able to loosen Vehicle Stability Assist operation when driving in Track Mode, giving the driver more freedom. This safety system can also be completely disengaged for the skilled driver to retain full control.

Launch Mode Control: It can take years of training to launch a car from a standstill and achieve respectable speeds, but Launch Mode Control is here to help. Engaging this feature allows the driver to launch the vehicle at peak power. Just begin at a full stop, press the brake pedal down, apply the accelerator fully to the floor, and then release the brake pedal; the NSX does the rest.

Startup Mode: Do you always leave the house in Quiet Mode? The Startup Mode option lets you program the NSX to always start in Quiet or Sport modes or to operate exclusively in Quiet Mode during specific times of day—say to avoid waking neighbors in the early morning.

Steering Feedback: Drivers need to be able to feel their vehicle performance through the wheel, and the NSX adjusts steering response in the performance-oriented driving modes to allow the driver to intuit vehicle speed and adjust steering angles more naturally.

Sound Control: The Intake Sound Control and Active Exhaust Valve systems are used to adjust the engine sound in the cabin per dynamic driving mode. The sound pressure range between Track and Quiet modes is 25 dB, ensuring that when you’re in performance mode, you can hear the finest notes of the engine and respond accordingly.
