2017 Acura MDX Safety Features Protect and Prevent

  • 2017 Acura MDX

The 2017 Acura MDX safety features just earned it a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Safety Rating from the NHTSA,* marking it as one of the safest luxury crossovers for our Chicago drivers. Available now at Chicagoland Acura Dealers, this seven-passenger crossover not only has the latest in comfort and technology amenities, it also features state-of-the-art safety and driver assistance features.

Active Safety

Safety technology does more than just react to an accident. Modern features like blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors work together with these 2017 Acura MDX safety features to keep you in control of the vehicle and aware of the world around you.

Acura MDX

Vehicle Stability Assist: When this feature detects a loss of traction, it can independently adjust engine torque and wheel speeds to bring stability to your ride and combat oversteer or understeer situations.

Acura MDX

Anti-Lock Braking System: When you slam a foot down on the brake, the MDX uses the anti-lock braking system to automatically pump the brakes and prevent them from locking up, keeping you in control.

Acura MDX

Electronic Brake Distribution: Road conditions and passenger distribution mean that not all wheels need the same force applied to slow down; Electronic Brake Distribution ensures that the right brake force is applied and all wheels slow down equally.

Acura MDX

Multi-Angle Rearview Camera: Just shift into reverse and this safety feature flips on, displaying what’s behind the MDX crystal clear on your in-dash screen. The available surround-view camera even offers views in all four directions around the MDX.

Acura MDX

Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Under-inflated tires can lead to erratic performance, and the TPMS monitors the air pressure of each tire, indicating with a light on the dash if they are low and require refilling.

Acura MDX

Daytime Running Lights: A vehicle with its headlights on is easier to see, even during the day, and the standard daytime running lights brighten up the front end of the MDX to make it more visible to other drivers.

Passive Safety

The 2017 Acura MDX safety features also include passive or reactive safety technologies, designed to respond to a collision or help see the passenger through it and out the other side. These features are made to secure the passengers and minimize the risk of injury from an accident.

  • Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure: Acura built the MDX with safety in mind, and they started with the very frame. A network of connected structural elements, featuring extra braces on the front corners, is designed to distribute crash energy evenly and keep it away from the passengers.
  • Seat Belts: Each of the 2017 Acura MDX seating positions features a three-point seat belt as standard, securing passengers in place during a collision.
  • Airbags: Dual-stage multi-threshold front airbags, SmartVent front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and a driver knee airbag work together to cushion MDX passengers in an accident, deploying with just the right amount of force to offer a layer of padding.

Driver-Assist Technology

Active and passive safety features have been developed and honed over time to be standard across virtually all automobiles, but Acura is pushing the envelope when it comes to safety. The 2017 Acura MDX safety features include the AcuraWatch Plus package of driver assistance technologies, features that use advanced radar and camera systems to monitor the road, alert you to potential accidents, and even actively help you avoid them.

Acura MDX
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: The MDX features radar sensors that are able to track the speeds of vehicles around it and adjust cruise control settings to keep pace with the rest of the vehicles on the road.
  • Forward Collision Warning: Adaptive Cruise Control’s radar sensors can also detect when the MDX is approaching a car too fast and alert the driver to the potential for a collision with audio and visual warnings.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking: If a driver doesn’t respond to the Forward Collision Warning, this safety feature can automatically engage the brakes to slow the MDX or bring it to a complete stop and mitigate any damage.
  • Lane Departure Warning: Forward-facing cameras on MDX models monitor lane markings and can sense if the vehicle is leaving the lane without signaling, issuing a warning to bring the driver’s attention back to the road.
  • Lane Keeping Assist: If the Lane Departure Warning has not been responded to, this safety system can give the wheel a gentle nudge to help re-center the MDX and keep it in its lane.
  • Road Departure Mitigation: A monocular camera is trained on common roadside markers and is designed to alert the driver, offer steering assist, and apply the brakes if it senses the MDX has crossed those roadside markers and is heading off the pavement.
