Compare the 2016 Lexus IS MPG to an Acura

June 28th, 2016 by

2017 Acura ILXNow that the 2017 Acura ILX has arrived, we think it’s time you see how competing models compare. The 2016 Lexus IS mpg ratings might look nice at a glance, but the ILX has the edge. We’ve already compared these two cars in our 2016 Lexus IS review, but right now we want to focus on the fuel economy in particular.

Which of these two luxury sedans has a more efficient engine under the hood?

IS 200t vs. ILX

While both of these sedans have a 4-cylinder engine under the hood, the turbocharger of the Lexus puts a damper on its fuel economy in comparison to the Acura.

  • 2016 Lexus IS mpg ratings top out at 33 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city, respectable for a luxury sedan, but far from the best in its class.
  • 2017 Acura ILX models have an EPA-estimated 35 mpg highway fuel economy, earning 25 mpg in the city,* outperforming the Lexus thanks to the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Many drivers think that a luxury sedan means a poor fuel economy, and while we think that both of these sedans certainly put that rumor to bed, the Acura also clearly does a better job of offering drivers a more efficient luxury sedan. Don’t think that the higher fuel economy means for a sluggish engine, either; the 2.4L 4-cylinder of the Acura kicks out as much as 201 hp, giving the sedan plenty of pep.

The ILX is just one of the vehicles that bests the IS; see how the 2016 Acura TLX compares to the Lexus in our 2016 Lexus IS trims overview.
