Compare the 2016 BMW X5 SAV Standard Features

September 30th, 2016 by

Acura MDXChicago drivers have quite a few luxury crossover options available to them, and that means a vehicle like the 2016 BMW X5 SAV needs standard features that can compete with the best of them. While the BMW model might have little trouble going head-to-head with a Volkswagen or a Toyota, we put the BMW up against the 2017 Acura MDX and found that the Acura comes out on top.

BMW vs. Acura

If you’ve looked at either of these two luxury crossovers, you’ve probably already seen the price difference, but we think it’s worth looking at again:

  • 2017 Acura MDX (with front-wheel drive): $43,950 MSRP*
  • 2016 BMW X5 SAV: $57,000

Acura has built up a reputation for giving drivers value in addition to luxury, equipping their vehicles with some of the most advanced technology features and traditional luxury amenities. So despite the price difference, the MDX actually has the advantage on features.

Each of these Acura features is either unavailable or requires an upgrade on the 2016 BMW X5 SAV standard features:

  • Rear heating and air-conditioning controls
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Multi-angle rearview camera
  • Leather-trimmed seating
  • Third-row split bench seat
  • LED Jewel Eye headlights
  • Collision Mitigation Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning

Acura also offers more in the way of peace of mind; just look at how their warranties compare:

  • 2017 Acura MDX models have a powertrain warranty of 72 months or 70,000 miles.
  • 2016 BMW X5 SAV crossovers only cover powertrain elements with a 48-month/50,000-mile warranty.

We aren’t quite sure where the price difference comes from on these two vehicles, as it looks pretty clear that the MDX has the advantage on features and warranty coverage.
