Do the 2016 Acura RLX Tech Features Offer Everything Drivers Want?

February 28th, 2016 by

Acura RLXWhen a consumer is in the market for a luxury vehicle, one of the assets reasonably expected for the premium price they’re going to pay is state-of-the-art technology features.

In today’s automotive market, tech offerings are becoming more varied and impressive with each new model year. Things customers never dreamed of—outside of fantasy and science fiction novels—are now realities right onboard their vehicles. Further, elite amenities that used to be available only at a high-cost upgrade to the very wealthiest and most exclusive customers are now often offered as standard features at the base model level.

The 2016 Acura RLX technology features, for instance, are robust and high-end at the base model trim level. But how does the RLX measure up against the tech offerings of its competitors?

Does a competing vehicle like the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350 offer technology features that surpass the RLX’s offerings? Or does the RLX win the day in terms of technological amenities? Keep reading, and we’ll explore how these two vehicles compare.

Technology Offerings

Among technologically advanced features the base model RLX and the base model E350 have in common, these two vehicles both offer amenities like a rearview camera, remote door unlock, power windows and doors, power moonroof, universal garage door opener, steering wheel–mounted controls, three standard front power outlets, telematics, speed-sensitive volume, MP3 player, USB port, remote keyless access system, multi-function remote, vehicle theft-deterrent system, and radio theft-deterrent system.

There are also tech features the RLX offers at the base level that the E350 does not, or that the RLX offers as standard amenities but the E350 only offers as an optional upgrade for an extra expense.

Among features found in the RLX but not the E350, the RLX provides voice-activated controls for both audio and Bluetooth wireless-enabled devices as a standard feature. The E350 only offers voice-activated controls for Bluetooth wireless-enabled devices, not audio, and only offers this feature as an optional upgrade.

The RLX also features a power liftgate—an amenity not found in the E350. The RLX additionally provides speed-sensing interval windshield wipers, which the E350 does not offer.

The RLX provides satellite radio as a standard amenity for its passengers—a feature only offered as an optional upgrade in the E350.

The RLX additionally features noise cancellation technology, which the E350 does not provide, and push-start ignition, which is only offered as an optional upgrade in the E350.
