After a significant hiatus, one of the most beloved Acura models is set to return. The 2016 Acura NSX supercar is coming soon to Chicagoland drivers, and with all of its unique performance enhancing features, we expect it to be a performance car of many “world firsts.” After all, the NSX is using technology that borders on the futuristic, from its three-motor hybrid design to is metallurgy molding techniques to its remarkable aerodynamics and stunningly low center of gravity.

We are still waiting on a release date for the NSX, but in the meantime, we want to go over some of our favorite features with you.

Multi-Material Body

The core of the NSX is defined by its timeless sports car aesthetics, which are taken to a new level thanks to its multi-material frame. This new frame is a next-gen leap in body design and engineering, delivering one of the most rigid bodies in a hyper-competitive auto market, and it’s exclusive to Acura.

The original NSX featured an all-aluminum body that was well ahead of its time, but the new aluminum and ultra-high-strength steel body is out of this world, taking frame design in bold new directions.

This new rigid body is all thanks to key advancements in casting technology that allowed the NSX engineering team to design a vehicle with castings in optimum locations for maximum rigidity while also remaining ductile in the necessary crush zones to keep the NSX safe.

Supercar Aerodynamics

The NSX has always had good looks, but it’s important that this Acura have a practical aerodynamic design as well. Drag is minimized on the new body design, and downforce is created through airflow management, all thanks to the extensive testing at Acura’s Raymond, Ohio wind tunnel with ultra-detailed replicas.

With six vortices flowing at the rear of the NSX and creating a high downforce on the rear deck, this Acura will be anchored to the ground. Even the rear diffuser fins are angled in a way to improve overall downforce.
