Built for all mankind

2016 MDX

To create one of the most versatile and luxurious sport utility vehicles, Acura pushed aside the familiar designs of the past and reimagined what Chicagoland drivers needed from a luxury crossover. The result? The 2016 Acura MDX: powerful, elegant, and high-tech.

Performance

Delivers power under pressure

You can never truly know where life will take you or what the road ahead may have in store, but the standard 3.5L V6 engine (with 290 hp) is designed to get you and your MDX where you need to be with time to spare. Available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) gives you the freedom to abandon the pavement, monitoring driver input and speed to deliver precision traction response. And it’s one of the most efficient models on the road.

    Fuel Economy

It used to be that “fuel efficient” and “SUV” were opposites, unable to attract, but the MDX puts that to rest with with EPA-estimated fuel economies of 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city for 2016 Acura MDX FWD models equipped with idle stop.[1] These kinds of fuel economies are virtually unheard of on three-row SUVs, and doubly so in the luxury world.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    9-Speed Automatic Transmission

Part of the new MDX’s remarkable fuel economy comes from this new 9-speed automatic transmission. Designed for the smoothest shifting of gears and built to complement the 3.5L V6 under the hood, this transmission gives you an added level of control as well, featuring standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Super Handling All-Wheel Drive

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is unlike traditional AWD systems, offering enhanced dry-road handling as well as an all-weather advantage. The system is designed to adjust power and torque to match traction, weight distribution, and other factors to offer seamless power transitioning and high-performance cornering.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Agile Handling Assist

Every inch of the MDX is built to give you precision control, and Agile Handling Assist uses the MDX’s Vehicle Stability Assist system to improve overall handling, braking individual wheels to help correct understeer or oversteer. By using active braking on an inside wheel, it can help you trace the precise line you want through a curve.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Integrated Dynamics Systems

Not everyone wants tight handling on their SUV, preferring a more relaxed drive, and the Integrated Dynamics System lets you choose from “Normal,” “Sport,” and “Comfort” settings. It just takes the push of a button on the shifter to switch into a different driving mode for cruising home after a long day or zipping through the streets of Chicago.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Quiet and Smooth Ride

The driver’s seat is the refuge for many a Chicagoan, and that means you need to have a quiet, smooth ride without any interference from the outside world. The MDX has sound absorbing acoustic glass, triple-sealed doors and tailgate, and special insulators to quiet the rear wheelhouse.

Exterior

Subtle yet expressive

The chassis and platform of the 2016 Acura MDX give it a sleek profile, low to the ground, ensuring it’s just as nice to look at as it is to drive. The front end features Acura’s exclusive Jewel Eye LED headlights for a stunning look, and the aerodynamic curves do double duty, enhancing the fuel economy of the SUV while turning the heads of other drivers.

    Multi-Angle Rearview Camera

On the rear of each MDX is a rearview camera with top-down, wide-angle, and standard views. It engages whenever you shift into reverse, giving you a crystal clear view of what’s behind your MDX before backing up. Change views with a push of the “enter” button on the center panel.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Jewel Eye LED Headlights

It’s tough to say what Chicagoland drivers will like more about the Jewel Eye LED headlights. They illuminate the road ahead of you with a whiter and brighter beam, but they also provide a unique look to the MDX. Even when they are turned off, the reflective surfaces give the MDX a unique gleam.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Speed Sensing Wipers

You may not think much of your windshield wipers, but Acura engineers designed the MDX’s wipers to offer superior coverage over the windshield and adjust their speed as needed. During normal driving, the resting position places the wipers just out of sight for a seamless look.

Interior

Sophisticated and practical

The 2016 MDX interior isn’t just refined; it’s refinement refined. Acura reimagined the crossover interior to put driver and passenger comfort at a premium, surrounding you in luscious leather and providing an intuitive interface for your technology and connectivity settings. Tri-zone climate control automatically adjusts to keep everyone comfy, and the available GPS link actually adjusts temperature based on the position of the sun.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Standard Third-Row Seating

Most luxury SUVs require drivers to upgrade for a third row of seating, squeezing it in where there would normally be a spacious cargo space and resulting in a cramped third row and barely any cargo storage. The MDX is designed around three rows of seating to give you and your family plenty of space for passengers and cargo.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Cargo Area

The MDX comfortably seats as many as seven passengers, but with a 60/40 split-folding second-row seat and a 50/50 split third-row seat, you can make room for passengers and large cargo. Tie-down hooks make it easy to keep big items in place, and a storage area beneath the floor lets you put valuables out of sight.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Power Tailgate

With the MDX’s available power tailgate, trying to juggle the groceries and open the cargo area is a thing of the past. Just pres a button on the key fob, the tailgate will open and close for you. If it senses an obstruction, it will automatically reverse to keep from bumping and causing damage.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Automatic Climate Control

Tri-zone automatic climate control, linkable to the available GPS system, helps to keep everyone comfortable. Driver, front passenger, and rear passengers all have separate settings so that you can all enjoy a drive whether you are heading to the store or going off on a family road trip.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    On-Demand Multi-Use Display

Acura has been leading the way in infotainment technology, and they realized the only way to give drivers the connectivity they wanted without loading the console up with buttons was to use a touchscreen. The available On Demand Multi-Use Display (ODMD) features all of the controls you’ll need in one convenient, adjustable touchscreen.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

SMS / Email / Siri Eyes Free

Not only is handheld texting behind the wheel unsafe, it’s also illegal in many states. Acura knows that sometimes you need to stay connected, though, and includes SMS texting, email, and Siri Eyes Free compatibility to let you send and receive texts handsfree.

Safety

High-tech accident prevention

Many MDX owners are now on their second or even third version of the Acura crossover, and while we think the well-appointed interior, luxurious leather seating, and efficient powertrain are part of the picture, we think there’s another reason. Acura has a reputation for safety, doing everything in vehicle design to help keep driver and passenger safe.

    Body Structure

From the frame up, the MDX is built for safety. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure helps enhance crash test performance and protect drivers in front-end collisions. A network of structural connections is designed to more evenly distribute energy during an accident rather than letting it concentrate in the front, middle, or rear.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Braking Systems

Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are just the start of the MDX’s state-of-the-art braking system. Electronic Brake Distribution ensures each wheel receives the right amount of force when braking regardless of the weight distribution of the vehicle, and brake assist detects when you press down the brake pedal suddenly and ensures anti-lock brakes are activated in an emergency.

  • 2016 Acura MDX

    Vehicle Stability Assist

Vehicle Stability Assist does just what it says, monitoring where your wheels are headed and where the steering wheel says you want them to go. If it detects that you’ve lost control, it can adjust throttle position, vehicle speed, wheel speed, and more to keep you stable.

  • 2016 Acura ILX

    Collision Mitigation Braking

You no longer have to imagine an SUV that has your active safety as a top priority. With AcuraWatch Plus, the Collision Mitigation Braking System uses a high-res camera and a radar system to watch for vehicles and pedestrians to warn you and even apply the brakes if it detects a potential collision.

  • Acura Road Departure Mitigation

    Road Departure Mitigation

It can be tempting to take the MDX off the pavement with the SH-AWD system to back you up, but with AcuraWatch Plus, Acura’s SUV makes sure you only head off-road when you want to. By detecting objects on the side of the road, the Road Departure Mitigation system notices when you start to stray from the pavement and alerts you to bring your attention back to the road.

  • 2016 Acura ILX

    Child Safety

The MDX is built for families, and when it comes to child safety it’s prepared for any age of child. LATCH-compliant anchors make it easy to secure all sizes of child safety seats until your child is old enough to wear the seat belt and secure them properly.
